Donglin Xixiang began as a web comic released on the author's Weibo account on February 8, 2018; official serialization began on Tencent Animation on May 17, 2018. One volume was published in print by China Friendship Publishing Company (中国友谊出版公司) in January 2020. The series was published digitally in English as Beauty and the West Chamber by Webcomics from May 9, 2019 to July 14, 2022, and has been published in print in German by Chinabooks E. Wolf since November 2, 2023.
